At MTN’s Partner Forum, the Data Protection Office (DPO) urged MTN and its partners to comply with Rwanda’s Data Protection and Privacy Law. The presentation covered key roles, rights, and legal duties, stressing that safeguarding personal data builds trust.
The DPO noted cloud storage is permitted, but using servers outside Rwanda requires authorization from the National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA). Organizations were advised to include data protection in contracts, register vendors, and conduct due diligence. Training and awareness were highlighted as vital for compliance.
“Data protection is not just about compliance; it is about trust and reputation. As businesses, safeguarding personal data is essential to upholding business values and credibility. Protect data, build trust and safeguard your reputation.” Said Mr. Eraste Rurangwa, Head of DPO
