At the 13th General Assembly of pharmacy professionals, the Data Protection and Privacy Office (DPO) reminded members of the Rwanda National Pharmacy Council that protecting patient data is a constitutional right. Pharmacies process sensitive health information daily, making strict compliance with Rwanda’s law relating to the protection of personal data and privacy essential.
The DPO highlighted the role of regulators in enforcement: the Ministry of Health and the Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority. Patient confidentiality was emphasized as both a legal duty and an ethical cornerstone of healthcare.
