As part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the Data Protection Office (DPO) has taken part in the campaign dubbed Tekana Online, Ba Maso, across Rwanda, focusing on educating youth about cybersecurity and data privacy.
DPO representatives have presented Rwanda’s Law Nº 058/2021 of 13/10/2021 relating to the protection of personal data and privacy, explained the roles of data controllers and processors and emphasized the importance of safeguarding personal data.
The DPO underscored the critical role personal data plays in everyday activities from accessing services to engaging on social media. “Different activities rely on data, especially personal data, to function,” Mr. Gerard Karuhanga; DPO staff member explained. “It is critical that this data is kept appropriately. The information you provide to data controllers should only be used for the specific purpose you both agreed upon.”
