Data Protection and Privacy Office hosts Data Protection Academy by EU Commissions International Digital Cooperation project and Maastricht University

Through May 10-11, 2023, Rwanda’s Data Protection and Privacy Office hosted the Data Protection Academy, a training initiative delivered by the European Commission's International Digital Cooperation project and Maastricht University.

The two-day data protection and privacy training was delivered to staff of the office and public institutions to enhance their capacity in implementing the personal data protection and privacy law.

The training covered a range of topics including, but not limited to:

  • Key Data Protection Concepts and Principles
  • Principles and Grounds for lawful processing
  • Obligations of Data Controllers and Data Processors
  • Rights of Data Subjects
  • Powers of the Supervisory Authority

With four months left to the end of the DPP Law transitional period, all institutions are encouraged to be compliant with the personal data protection and privacy law.
