Compliance with Rwanda's Personal Data Protection and Privacy law

Background

Data privacy day is globally recognized as the day to raise awareness about the importance of respecting privacy, safeguarding data, and enabling trust.

In Rwanda, the personal data protection and privacy law is within the final year of its transitional period, and the Data Protection & Privacy Office is spearheading awareness activities to guide Data Controllers and Data Processors towards compliance.

It is against this background that the data Protection Office will hold a Data Privacy Week to raise awareness to Data Controllers and Data Processors, of compliance with the personal data protection and privacy law under the theme of “Compliance as an enabler for trusted and secure personal data usage”

Objectives

  1. Provide a platform for regulators and key data controllers and data processors to discuss implementation of the personal data protection and privacy law
  2. Raise awareness of the availability of compliance materials to Data Controllers and Data Processors
  3. Raise awareness of the support services of the Data Protection & Privacy Office
